Dollylocks dreadlocks Shampoo– This is a Florida based company that is made with natural products. Although this product doesn’t foam as much due to its natural ingredients it still provides the same coverage as regular dreads shampoo. I use Dollylocks shampoo myself and I love that it leaves my hair feeling clean and fresh.
The Best Sulfate-Free Shampoos For Locs
Superdreads Shampoo– This shampoo is perfect for people who suffer from dandruff. The superdreads is residue-free and doesn’t leave any overpowering smell after use. Similarly, you’ll love that it’s not as foamy as regular shampoo ensuring that it washes off easily.
Dr. Bronners hemp peppermint shampoo– Another shampoo that leaves your hair feeling clean and itch-free. I should mention that Dr. Bronners leaves your hair feeling a little dry after rinse, so I don’t recommend this product to those who suffer from extra dry hair. It’s a bit foamy therefore, don’t apply too much to your dreads.
Dr. Locs Yasmin Shampoo– The Dr. Locs is very lightweight and feels similar to a cleanse.
Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo– This product is amazing for starter locs it helps your hair transition to dreadlocks. The Shea Moisture has apple cider vinegar which is the main ingredient in a homemade dread detox. The apple cider vinegar can strip your hair of its moisture, however, the shea butter, Jamaican Black Castor oil, and peppermint replenish the moisture.
Not all great shampoo is residue-free so, to prevent shampoo build-up don’t use too much in your hair. Use the amount that is directed by the manufactures.
Diluting Shampoo
I find when diluting shampoo, half with water is a good mixture. Use a spray bottle with measurement to ensure that you have the right measurements. Empty your shampoo into a spray bottle to reach half, then add warm water and give the bottle a gentle shake.
Check the consistency of the mixture to see if it easy to spray out and add water if needed. Diluting shampoo is important since it allows you to get enough coverage when washing your locs. There are no science behind this procedure and the consistency depends on personal preference
